I was born in Big Spring in 1947 and moved away when I was 6 yoa after my father died, Thomas James. One of the things I've kept through the years is a bood "Big Spring" by Shine Phillips, 1946. I've always been proud of being a Texan and enjoyed reading through your HCTHP.  Good job.

Try again. Climbed signal mountain when I was nine with my older brother in 1962. We parked at Moss Creek/lake snuck over the fence and walked and climbed. The last few feet at the top were not easy. Found a hole approx. 12 ft. deep with a wood ladder in it but way too rotten to use. At the bottom of the hole near the ladder was a lantern (glass globe intact) but the hole was such we didn't risk going down. The view was awesome and became hooked on exploring ever since.

I miss Melvin's hamburgers, the Wagon wheels mini-pitchers of beer, and O'dells BBQ in "Jones Valley" (took the sauce receipe to his grave, damnit), riding my horse in the parade, hunting blue quail and cottontail, and the winter arrival of the thousands of Sandhill Cranes. Thanks for the website.

Spent time in Big Spring during my tour of duty in the Air Force.  It was a real culture shock when I first rolled into town but after a while it kind of grows on you.  Do you still have the rattle snake round up?
